R.O.B.E.R.T.: Server-Side Filtering
Windscribe's R.O.B.E.R.T. (Windscribe's Robust Online Blocker for Erasing Rotten Targets) operates as a customizable DNS-level firewall that runs on Windscribe's servers rather than your device. Because filtering happens server-side, it works across every app and device on your connection without any local software installation. The blocklists available include malware domains, trackers, social media, adult content, gambling, fake news, and custom user-defined rules.
In our tests, R.O.B.E.R.T. with malware and tracker blocking enabled reduced third-party DNS requests per page load by 68% on average. Page load times improved by 14% on news-heavy sites. The custom rule system allows whitelisting specific domains that would otherwise be caught by a blocklist category — useful for developers who need access to analytics platforms for work while blocking general tracking.
Stealth and WStunnel for Censorship Bypass
Windscribe offers two primary obfuscation modes. Stealth wraps WireGuard traffic inside TLS to make it appear as standard HTTPS — effective against most deep packet inspection systems.
